A Baking Tip

If you ever find yourself making brownies (from a mix, of course) and you've dumped the mix and the water and the eggs into a bowl only to find out that you no longer have any oil don't fear...you most certainly can use the used oil you poured back into the container after using it to fry sopapillas a few weeks beforehand. Good thing you kept it (even if it was only because you weren't exactly sure what to do with it -- pour it down the drain? throw it in the trash? fry something else down the road?) Turns out you can't really taste a difference.

But it did weird me out enough that I ended up taking most of them to school for the send-off party for our office aides. Got some compliments even so, again, go for it if you find yourself in the same pinch!

Does anyone actually know how long used oil lasts?

And don't worry...I really am planning on buying new oil in the very near future. And to all of you Dinner Club girls who might be reading, the Mexican fiesta was the first and only time the oil had been used. Up until the other day, I mean.

And I've also read that you can replace oil with applesauce in recipes but I didn't think of that one in time. Alas.
